The 6ix
I went to Toronto during November 2021, so it was cold, but not brutal compared to their winter. I’m told the city is more fun during summer, and I keep this in mind when planning my next visit.
My accommodations were at the St. Regis on King St., which also houses the regally designed LOUIX LOUIS restaurant, located on the 31st floor. I couldn’t get enough of this place. The interior design was stunning.
I stand by Toronto having some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. I’d recommend Toronto for foodies, because it has a variety of dishes to reflect the cultures that thread the city. Lots of fusion cuisines, which I personally love. Specifically, there’s a place I visited called Patois located on Dundas St. that fuses Asian and Caribbean food. Highly recommended.
Notable additions to my palate on this trip included poutine, orange wine and a few bites of local specialties from St. Lawrence Market. I can walk through St. Lawrence market indulging in their goods all day. I also tried The Burger’s Priest, and for fans of Degrassi, that’s a huge deal.
While I’m not big on shopping during trips (because I can shop at home), I visited Yorkdale Mall and Eaton Center. Looking back, I could have skipped those two places, but commuting to Yorkdale allowed me to see more of the city. I also stopped by a Kit Kat store to “create my break”. The idea of personalization for anything is a plus and if you’ve been reading my other travel stories, I’m always down for some chocolate.
Admittedly, I didn't plan well for this trip, but I knew one thing - in order to get the best view of the city, I’d have to go up the CN Tower at night. Best decision ever. Gazing down at the city lights was one for the books. I definitely think the view at night beats the view during the day.
I’m not a nightlife girl, but I went to a rooftop bar called Lavelle and enjoyed the ambiance. They played house music and it was more of a lounge feel, so it won me over. I ordered mocktails the entire time, but had a really in-depth conversation with the bartender about his experience working at bars. He noted that Vodka has the least sugar content out of all the alcohols, meaning it has a smaller chance of giving you a hangover. Not sure about the credibility of his advice, but I took it into consideration.
It was a short trip, and most of my time consisted of trying to walk around in the cold and retreating to warmth somewhere inside.
I said my goodbyes to the city at its famous Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square.
Until next time!
